a touch of creativity

In an attempt to remain creative despite my current responsibilities, I am attempting a blog. New to me, I hope that it will facilitate being ‘in touch’ with some of my loved ones who are far away. Instead of becomming totally disconnected over time and distance, I hope that this will offer even the smallest insight into my daily life.

SOLDIER (also known as “A SOLDIER’S LAMENT”)

I WAS THAT WHICH OTHERS DID NOT WANT TO BE. I WENT WHERE OTHERS FEARED TO GO, AND DID WHAT OTHERS FAILED TO DO. I ASKED NOTHING FROM THOSE WHO GAVE NOTHING, AND
RELUCTANTLY ACCEPTED THE THOUGHT OF ETERNAL LONELINESS . . .
    SHOULD I FAIL.

I HAVE SEEN THE FACE OF TERROR; FELT THE STINGING COLD OF FEAR; AND ENJOYED THE SWEET TASTE OF A MOMENT’S LOVE. I HAVE CRIED, PAINED, AND HOPED . . . BUT MOST OF ALL, I HAVE LIVED TIMES OTHERS WOULD SAY WERE BEST FORGOTTEN. AT LEAST SOMEDAY I WILL BE ABLE TO SAY THAT I WAS PROUD OF WHAT I WAS . . . A SOLDIER.

Mum just showed me how to do this so I am going to do it. I have read the “Soldier’s Lament” before and it is so true. There is no one else in the world who can take the place of a brave soldier. I am reminded of that every day when I think of you and your life. There were approximately 10,000 people lining the streets in Cape Breton in respect of Jimmy. I heard that on the news this evening. Wish we all could have gone. I will keep watch on your blog. We love you for who you are and are proud of you.
